Skate Night - Feb 23rd at Crofton Skate Zone (5-7pm)
Bring your friends, pajamas, skates and scooter... We're having our last skate night of the school year! Admission is $5. Skate rental fee is only $4.50. The flier for this event is attached below. Please arrive by 6:30pm to be apart of the PEW PTO event and to receive the discount.

Box Tops For Education ends on February 28
Our school will be sending in the Box Tops we’ve collected. Our goal this year is to earn $2,000. Help us reach our goal by sending in your Box Tops as soon as possible.
Please bring your baggies of Box tops to school for the collection box on or before February 28. Make sure that the baggie is labeled with the Teacher's name. For more information about the program, visit: https://www.boxtops4education.com/
Read Across America Week (February 26th - March 2nd)
Students activities will be conducted throughout the week. We will also celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday!
PGCPS Specialty Lottery closes March 12th
If your PEW scholar's sibling would like to enter the lottery to attend PEW next year, please make sure you register for the lottery on the PGCPS website. Eligible sibligns will receive preference so long as their application is submitted before the deadline. Also, if you have any friends and family living in Prince George's County that wishes to attend our Spanish Immersion Program, please inform them that the deadline is quickly approaching. PEW Science Night - March 12th at 6:30pm
All scholars are invited to PEW Science Night. This event is hosted by our school and would appreciate the attendance of our scholars. The PEW faculty and staff will engage young minds in the study of science during this fun night of learning. More information will be sent out by the school about the event
PEW PTO General Body Meeting - March 20th at 6:30pm
Popcorn and Pajamas - March 23rd at 6:30pm
Are you ready for a night of movies and fun with the PEW Family?! We are excited to bring Popcorn and Pajamas back to the PEW. However, we need your help to make this event special for our students and guests! This fun-filled night requires volunteers for concession stand, admissions, and other duties throughout the evening. There are shifts to accommodate work schedules and errands. Click here to sign up to volunteer. Chess Club - Spring Session
Information about the chess club will be sent home in the upcoming weeks. Make sure to sign up fast since spots fill quickly! The PEW PTO Parents of the 3rd Quarter, Darin and Deanah Mitchell, will coordinate this program.
Tiny Chefs - Spring Session (April 10th - May 29th)
The Tiny Chefs had an awesome time this Winter and would love for you scholar to join them making their culinary delights this Spring!
Who loves cheese balls, truffles, and other bite sized snacks?! This spring get ready for some amazing “ball” shaped goodies. In this unique session, students will "round 'em up" by creating Popcorn Balls, Snowball Truffles, and Homemade Meatballs There's nothing square about this class - let's get the ball rolling! Cost is only $184/student for the Spring Session.

School Spirit Wear Order Distribution
Ordered PEW T-shirts, sweat shirts, and other spirit wear will be sent home this week. The students may wear their polo shirts any day with the approved uniform bottoms. On Fridays, the students can wear the t-shirts with approved bottoms.
PEW Summer School (July 9th - 19th)
Spanish Immersion Summer School will take place on Monday thru Thursday from 9am - 1pm. More details about the summer program will be sent home from the school.

Spanish Immersion needs your support! The Prince George's County Board of Education meets tonight to discuss its budget, and on the agenda is continuing valuable language immersion programs like ours into higher grades. Please join in the effort to support our program, continue it and expand it.
If the Immersion line item is not approved, Spanish Immersion education will end at Grade 3!

The PEW PTO will conduct an election at the upcoming meeting on February 20, 2018.
If you would like to self-nominate or nominate someone else, please submit their name and candidate statement (if applicable) to email@example.com with the subject line: PEW PTO Vice President Nomination. Candidates that provide this information will be included on the ballot.
If any new candidates are nominated after February 19, 2018, their names may be included as a write-in candidate on the day of the election.
Candidates for VP must be current PEW PTO members in good standing.

The Parents of the Quarter are Darin and Deanah Mitchell, who when they found out about their recognition, said, "Darin truly enjoys working with the children each week in Chess. We will continue to work with our school so that our PEW children are well-rounded and have these types of opportunities!"
At the last PTO Body meeting, on Jan 23, the members decided to have a separate meeting on Feb. 6 to discuss the 2017-2018 budget. Please mark your calendars for 6:30 pm at the school, room assignment TBD.
